Next friday is National work from home day!

Organisations and employees across the UK, both public and private,
will be taking part in the national day to demonstrate the benefits of
home working.

Many people can easily do their jobs from home. Technology makes it possible to work virtually and to work from multiple locations. I am writing this article on my kitchen table with the dog at my feet and a fresh cup of coffee…..

Even just working
from home for one day a week will have a profound impact upon traffic
congestion and public transport overcrowding – just look what happens
during the school holidays!

Working from home also significantly improves productivity, enabling
businesses to be more competitive, and enhances work-life balance for
staff, with added health and leisure benefits.

So all of you workers out there: speak to your organisation on Monday and make sure they know about the Governments initiative to promote home working and ask if you can work from home next Friday. You never know - it might become a habit…….

Check it out at www.workwiseuk.org

For those of you who would like a head start at knowing what you’re talking about when trying to persuade your boss, try a crash course in the benefits of home working by looking at the Working from home forum www.working-at-home-forum.com and then put on the kettle, take out your laptop and start practicing. For those of you who haven’t yet got round to arranging your broadband connection, pick up the phone today.

Anyone who thinks its too expensive to set up from home, think again. A printer will cost you in the region of £100-£150, a scanner will be around the same price and a laptop often comes with the job. If not, you can get a cheap but perfectly functional one for around £450. A hard drive backup will set you back around £80. In total then around £700 - £800. If that sounds a lot, think about the costs of public transport or petrol and do the sums.

And then put your feet up….
