Anna Kavanagh is the founder of Time4balance.

I graduated with a Business degree from Oxford Brooks University and then went on to study law at Nottingham Trent University where I took my law finals in 1994. Once qualified, I joined a large firm of City lawyers, where I gained a great deal of negotiating experience. Having spent too many nights round a negotiating table with some very stressed and exhausted lawyers and clients, I gradually realised that, I wanted something other  than long hours, stress and a high salary. Many of those I was working with felt that they wanted different working arrangements but were unable to negotiate them for a variety of reasons. I was one of them.

I left and started my own consultancy advising on working flexibly to gain a better balance in life. I combine my legal knowledge of the legislation with my business background to advise on how flexible working arrangements can work within a business context. I find what I do very satisfying, fulfilling and intriguing. Being a "people" person, I am very interested in what makes people and organisations "tick" beyond the pure economics of making a good product or providing a great service.

I also work as a consultant with Advanced Workplace Associates who are a mult-disciplinary consultancy advising on advanced ways of working. Here is the link: Advanced Workplace Associates

I have 3 children: Tierney (9), Conall (7) and Erin (5). They help keep me focused on life in its fuller meaning and are constantly challenging the way I view things. They also make me laugh a lot…..always important to stop me taking myself too seriously. Conall has type I diabetes which requires very careful managing; another reason for working in a flexible manner. I have a partner who gives me insight into many extraordinary parts of the way our world works, as well as a great deal of support (he designed and set up this blog) and encouragement. He is one of the few people I know who can encourage with constructive and kind feedback and unique flair.

I also enjoy being outdoors as much as possible and take every opportunity to do something active. I run, sail, ski and bike ride and will do anything else if asked!

As I enjoy people and the outdoors, I obtained a commission in the Army and spent 9 years serving as an officer in the Territorial Army. This training included leadership, management and team building skills as well as learning my own limitations when cold, wet, hungry and lost……….
